Here’s a work flow nightmare: Imagine a company that sells a product that comes with a maintenance contract. A client calls in with a problem to the tech support line. Tech support is happy to solve the problem but doesn’t have access to the system which contains the maintenance contracts. Therefore, they fix the issue but are not able to determine if the user should have first paid the maintenance fee. There is neither access to the correct system or, at a minimum, a work flow process that allows them to easily pass along the customer name to someone who can follow up with a new maintenance contract if necessary. Easy to see how this causes lost revenue.
